2008 presents a rare opportunity for us to sail to Sydney Harbour and enjoy the Australia Day festivities on a Saturday, then to enjoy a relaxing Sunday and return to Pittwater on the Monday.

As with any cruise our itinerary will be weather dependant and may therefore be changed at the 11th hour.

Our plan is to rendezvous in the Harbour and cruise participants are requested to monitor VHF Ch77 for movements of other Club members.

The Inaugural RPAYC Cruising Ladies Kayak Championship.

"There was movement at the boats
As the word was passed around
That the girls and the kayaks were ready to race."

That's right, the competitive spirit of the cruising ladies was thrust into top gear when it was suggested that a kayak race be run. As we were anchored in Killaben Bay it was noticed that many of the yachts had kayaks tied to the stern.

A race was inevitable!

David and Andrea MacKay on Diomedea.

Just too busy... I was still working on the 27th of December. Diomedea motored out of Sydney Harbour at 0815 on the 28th into... a dead calm. Jervis Bay lay 70 odd miles south and so we plodded on awaiting the breeze. The nor'easter finally made its entrance at 1300hr and soon we were barreling along under sail. The angle was just right so the big, sexy assy went up and boat speed was quickly into 7's and 8's.

Paradise Found - Jervis Bay

By Chris & Suzanne Daly's cruise aboard “Reliance” -  26 Dec 07 to  5 Jan 08

Crystal clear waters

Reliance rounded Barrenjoey at 1500 on Boxing Day in a strengthening NE breeze. We had a great sail south in the wake of the Hobart fleet (just missed them I guess) and arrived at Jibbon Beach at sunset in time for a refreshing swim.

Is the first race of a new RPAYC Kayak Racing Division?
Is it the new kayaking training scheme for the elderly (note instructor in inflatable)?
Or is it the AlfredsCruising recommended substitute for the Coffs race?

No doubt all will be revealed when the reports from the Lake Macquarie cruise filter out...

[Later] Oh, it's the Nutz Cup! Well... that explains all, doesn't it?
